I took the SUP Instructor qualification because I want to be able to introduce more people to the sport in a safe environment. I want to use my knowledge and skills to involve the disadvantaged groups in to the sport. As one of the admins of East of England Paddlesports, we promote safe and responsible grass roots paddling in all forms and by us having additional qualified Instructors, we can continue to promote this. East of England Paddlesports is a free to join community, who provides lessons, social paddles and trips away, you can find us on Facebook or at http://www.eoeps.co.uk/.
During the course, I learnt that, even as an experienced paddler, going back to basics is what matters. Phil, our Tutor, taught us some great ways to teach the basic skills of paddling, as well as how to make these sessions fun…. yes that does involve an element of getting wet!
Next steps…
I would like to use the new award to provide sessions to schools, groups and clubs when required. Meanwhile the next steps for me is to look into further courses to enable me to take sessions in moving bodies of water.
Become a Stand Up Paddleboard Instructor
The SUP Instructor is a great first step for stand up paddleboarders looking to deliver safe and enjoyable taster/starter sessions based on your group’s needs and aspirations.
The 2 day course will support you with practical skills such as kitting up a group and getting afloat, initial familiarisation activities, games and activities and how to use mini journeys to support learning, inspire adventure and exploration. This will be enhanced with support on how these sessions can be delivered in a way that is enjoyable, safe and rewarding.
