Meet Richard, who recently attended the Community of Learning event

After identifying an ambition to further develop my coaching pathway, I commenced on the BCAB Performance Coach journey. After a number of sessions with my appointed mentor – Chris Brain, I decided to book a place on the next Community of Learning event. I had identified, through discussion and reading, insight into what I thought a Performance Coach might ‘look like’ but still had little understanding of the specifics surrounding the new award.

Following the very first session at the Community of Learning event, the fog started to lift and I began to identify what an Adventure Sports Performance Coach might comprise of.

More specifically, I began to realise that performance coaching is the delivery of highly personalised and targeted coaching to not only elite athletes but also beginner and improver paddlers alike.

Reassuringly, the ‘classroom’ isn’t limited to Olympic training venues but instead the complete environmental remit of the individual performance coach.

I found the dynamic and highly flexible approach delivered by the training team hugely beneficial with practical sessions being reinforced and underpinned with academic coaching philosophies and research.

I thoroughly recommend the Community of Learning event and look forward to developing my action plan to successful assessment in the near future.

Join a Community of Learning Event

The Community of Learning Events are part of the Performance Coach learning journey, but can also be attended by any coach interested in developing their learning.

You will share these events with other highly motivated, skilled and experienced coaches from a range of disciplines, having powerful opportunities to explore, develop and refine your thinking about your coaching practices, knowledge and understandings. The support and challenge your peers and the Facilitators bring to these events should feed your curiosity; stimulating you to explore and stretch new ideas in your coaching whilst also helping you to refine your existing practices.
