Provider Role – National Occupational Standards Requirements

National Occupational Standards

All Tutors require:

A nationally recognised Tutoring Qualification that aligns to the relevant National Occupational Standards for Learning and Development (standards 1 to 8);

All Assessors require:

A nationally recognised Assessing Qualification that aligns to the relevant National Occupational Standards for Learning and Development (standard 9).

In the tables below you will find a detailed breakdown of our requirements for each provider/ tutor/ assessor role, if a role is not listed e.g Paddle Explore Provider it is because the role does not require a nationally recognised Tutoring or Assessing Qualification. However a Paddler Explore Provider might consider the gaining of a tutoring or assessing qualification as part of their development.

Examples of Relevant Tutoring Qualifications:

• Tutoring in the Paddlesport Environment (BCAB) (Available from Summer 2023)
• Qualified Teacher Status
• Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (QCF)
• Sports Education Tutoring PDA (SCQF)
• Level 3 Award in Delivering Learning (QCF)
• Level 3 Award in Education and Training

Examples of Relevant Assessor Qualifications:

• Assessing Competence in the Paddlesport Environment (BCAB)
• Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Related Achievement (QCF)
• Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Achievement (QCF)
• Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (QCF)
• Conduct the Assessment Process PDA (SCQF, L&D9)
• Assess Workplace Competence Using Direct Methods (SCQF, L&D9D)
• Assess Workplace Competence Using Direct and Indirect Methods (SCQF, L&D9DI)
• NVQ A1 Assessor Award
• NVQ D32/D33 Assessor Award

Note: you will normally have 18 months from orientation to complete your Tutoring and Assessing actions, if you require a tutoring or assessing qualification we recommend starting them sooner rather than later.

Please note the British Canoeing Awarding Body qualifications listed meet the National Occupational Standards for Learning and Development. They meet both BCAB and PUT requirements.

We can not guarantee that other awarding organisations will accept this training for their own needs and if you plan to tutor and/or assess across several awarding organisations we recommend you consider one of the Level 3 awards listed above as a minimum.
