What the Role Entails
As a member of the Performance Coach Provider team you will be helping coaches to further explore their own coaching, exploring their complex behaviours and helping them advance in their coaching career or aid them in their quest for a sense of purpose.
The performance Coach Delivery team has a number of roles which all contribute to and support an aspirant Performance Coach at different stages of their journey.
What are the roles?
Performance Coach Admin team
A small team that facilitates the different touch points of the development journey, the Performance Coach is very different to other qualifications and every journey will be different to meet an individual’s needs,
Webinar Presenters
Bringing your expertise in the fields of sports and/ or paddlesport coaching you will be responsible for providing learners with interesting and insightful presentations and interactive webinars. Webinars will be open to the wider coaching community and an ability to move the lens of the session to meet different audience needs will be essential.
Performance Coach Facilitator
Primarily focused on the leading of 2 day Community of Learning events either in person and/or face to face options to support blended programme learners, for example focused sessions workshops or single day events around coaching conferences etc. You will help individuals explore Performance Coaching in relation to the “who” “what” and “how” they coach. Every learner journey is truly bespoke and personal, so not only will you be a subject matter expert how has applied your knowledge and experience to paddlesports but you will be comfortable in a fast paced and changing environment – ‘taking the discussion where they need to go’
Performance Coach Mentor
Our team of mentors are the thread they links the learning on the individual journey, support aspirant performance coaches to reflect, stimulate insights and help them make sense of their learning and take action. Every aspirant Performance Coach is expected to take at least 4 mentoring sessions during their journey. You will also be responsible for taking the aspirant Performance Coach through their Philosophy Task in preparation for their assessment.
Performance Coach Developer
With this role you will be responsible for Coach Developer touch points. Aspirant Performance Coaches are responsible for the topics that are covered in these sessions which means that your sessions will always be different to match the needs of the individual.
Performance Coach Assessor
The Performance Coach Assessor is an important part of the learning journey, you will look at what the aspirant has done, look at what they are doing and help them form plans for future development. Assessments are practical and assessors will join the aspirant with coaching their own students either for or in the assessment environment, whilst a large part of the assessment happen ‘on the day’ it starts earlier with planning, preparation and the candidate sharing their coaching philosophy with you and whilst there is an assessment decision to be made – pass or fail there is the continuing learning journey of a performance coach to consider and our assessor support that planning process at the end of the assessment. To hold this role you must have experience of running progressive coaching sessions in specific disciplines. As well as experience of assessing within the British Canoeing Awarding Body Coaching and Leadership frameworks. We would normally expect Assessors to assess the equivalent coach award (Environment/ discipline) however applications for very experienced practitioners would be considered and we encourage you to apply.
How do I become a Performance Coach Provider?
The Performance Coach Provider roles are recruited on a needs basis, this means a needs analysis will be conducted and recruitment done when particular needs are identified.
When recruitments are planned they will be advertised via our Provider newsletters and social media. You will ordinarily have 4 weeks to apply, unless stated otherwise, the application form will be found on the “Further instructions” tab when it is available.
The Performance Coach Team roles are deployed roles. The National Association Delivery Centres pool resources and run one programme, the Delivery centres are responsible for learner recruitment and for your deployment. Unlike other provider roles you will be contracted by your National Associations to perform this role.
Work is offered on an unmeasured basis and the quotes payments include planning, preparation, delivery and followup:

Orientation Event
If successful, will be asked to book onto an orientation event. To get the most out of the event please ensure that you complete any pre-reading sent to you. This event will cover what is expected of you within your Performance Coach Provider role and how each stage is managed.
Maintaining Your Role
Once becoming a Performance Coach Provider you will be required to follow and agree to the Provider Service Agreement. This includes following the Update Scheme. This is done by maintaining up to date First Aid, Safeguarding and Paddle UK membership as well as taking part in some personal development.
Other parts of the Agreement will be checked by visits or remote support from Standardisation Officers and through administration checks. You will also be required to undertake some form of standardisation every year, this will be either online or face to face dependent on the subjects identified by the Delivery Centre that are needed to be covered.

Applications for Performance Coach Developers, Performance Coach Facilitators, Performance Coach Assessors and Performance Coach Developers will be open on 1st April 2025, as this is a UK wide intake the application form will be different to that of other Paddles Up Training roles, the timescales may also be slightly extended as the decisions will be made by a UK based panel rather than one from Paddles Up Training.
