Sea Kayak Award Goes Global

Hear from Adriana, who’s completed the NEW Sea Kayak Award in Greece

I was first introduced to paddling 6 years ago and fell in love with sea kayaking straight away. It’s a great way to explore and connect with nature, to relax and recharge the batteries. I usually go on day trips and on occasions longer trips, camping overnight. My passion for paddling has led to meeting lots of great people and some of them have become really good friends and inspired me to constantly improve my skills and knowledge.

I chose to take the Sea Kayak Award to learn new things and to find out what my skill level is. With the course being held on the gorgeous Greek Island of Skopelos, it was an opportunity not to be missed!

On the course, there was a mix of skill level and personal experience. During the 3 days of training, we practised in different weather and sea conditions, similar to the conditions I encounter on my trips. I really enjoyed the relaxed pace of the course, and that the structure of the course allows for a continuous mix of learning, assessment and feedback. Each day I felt more confident as an individual paddler, as well as a group member.

Where next? I will use my award to continue paddling, to explore new places during the summer. I would love to see the islands of Croatia or Sweden. My next steps are to paddle in more challenging conditions and progressively work towards the Coastal Sea Kayak Award.
