Description
Your Advanced Freestyle Award is designed to advance your skills. It will enable you to become a competent all-round freestyle paddler.
You will work with your Coach to create a proficient use of skills and equipment to enjoy and be in control throughout your freestyle session. This Award will give you the confidence in looking at the factors which affect our decisions on where and when to go out. As well as the confidence to discover and try further tricks to become an adaptable freestyle paddler.
Freestyle is about moving your boat about on every possible axis while having lots of fun. This award takes us through the fundamental skills and moves that can be learnt and performed on moving water, waves, holes and eddy lines – but many of them can be practised on flat and simple water too.
This might include:
- Loops
- Cartwheels
- Splitwheels
- Carving and cutbacks
- Blunts
- Back Surfing
- Blasts
- Bow Stalls
- Reverse variations of the above
- Linking moves and runs

If you’re new to White Water Freestyle, you might want to consider the Freestyle Award before progressing to the Advanced Freestyle Award.
Each day you spend playing in freestyle boats further expands your skills and knowledge, creating a more enjoyable experience on the water. With no two experiences ever the same, you never stop learning. Continually evaluating our skills creates a natural evolution of ability.

Content
You will look at how to choose the best place to enjoy a day out play boating. You will then develop the skills and ability to surf almost any style of feature and perform a range of cool tricks.
This will include:
- Choosing a Location
- Getting Ready
- At the Water
- Freestyle Skills
- After the Session
- Future Development
Course Assessment
Each day spent play boating will further expand your skills and knowledge, creating a more enjoyable experience on the water. There is no formal assessment for this award. You will work with your Coach to identify where your next area of progression will be and your award will be given when you are ready.
