Description
Your Slalom Excel Award will build on your existing skills to give you the ability to race and train in an advanced, slalom environment. You will explore new boat, body and blade movements and trajectories. As well as learning how to handle the challenges that forces of nature may bring with precision. It will give you a high level of skills to allow you to be in control throughout the session.
You will continue to look at the environmental factors to help you to make key decisions about when and where to paddle. You shall ensure that the kit you choose is appropriate for more advanced conditions. In addition, you will look at your impact on the environment when entering and leaving the water.
Warm ups and warm downs are very important to prepare you for a session. You and your Coach will look at your current warm up and warm downs to identify where you can improve. This will involve walking the course. You will also learn how to set a balanced and competitive slalom course in line with ICF rules and regulations.
As the conditions are now more advanced, you will need to have the skills to reflect this. You and your Coach will identify the techniques and tactics to help minimise your time around the poles. This will give you efficiency and effectiveness throughout your run.
What is involved
After each training session, you and your Coach will reflect on your session. Performing a good post-training assessment will help ensure your future sessions are positive experiences. You will look at other paddlers and video footage of yourself to see where technique can be improved. This will steer where your training will go next.
Each day we spend in a slalom boat further expands our skills and knowledge, creating a more enjoyable experience on the water. With no two training sessions ever the same, we never stop learning. Continually evaluating the choices we make creates a natural evolution of decision making and paddling ability.
