What the Role Entails
By becoming a Paddle Safer Provider, you will work with new and novice paddlers who want to develop their safety skills when taking to the water. The aim is for paddlers to gain knowledge and raise their awareness of paddling safely in a sheltered water environment in, or on, the craft that they paddle.
The Paddle Safer course is paddler-focused.
The course is based on learning, the ethos of ‘supporting the paddler’ is the main focus of the course, encouraging individuals to consider where they paddle, the equipment they use, as well as providing practical solutions if they get into difficulty.
WHAT DOES THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
As long as you meet the minimum requirements, you can become a provider at any time by completing the following steps:
Complete the Paddle Safer Provider eLearning
This eLearning provides guidance and structure on the ethos and delivery of the course, as well as how to certificate participants. Each module has a session guide with linked resources.
Development Phase
You do what you need, this might involve:
- Co-delivery of the Paddle Safer Award with other Providers.
- Reflecting on your own development.
- Discussing with your Mentor.
Once you feel ready, when you have the confidence to run the award independently, you can! It’s a self managed process. If you’re also a Paddle Awards Provider, you can offer dual certification of the Paddler Safer and Paddle Discover Award.
