Stadium Raft Racing Award

Description

10 CPD Points

Your Stadium Raft Racing Award is designed to introduce you to the specific skills that create an enjoyable and safe experience on an artificial, white-water course. You will expand your rafting and decision-making skills. As well as expanding your knowledge of any official race rules and tactics.

Paddling on white water brings additional factors that we need to consider. We need to select appropriate equipment to ensure we are safe within the water and on the bank. Further rescue skills will be required. You will need to consider the use of throw lines and how to defensive and aggressive swim.

Skills to steer and control the raft will be further developed. As with any white water course, you will need to consider the best line that you will take into each feature. You and your Coach will walk the course to identify the lines you need and to identify which features are more difficult and how they will affect your journey down the course. Further decision-making skills will be developed on when to change a line or a stroke to benefit your race.

What does it involve?

You will learn about the different race disciplines that there are within rafting. These include:

Sprint

Head to Head

Slalom

Downriver

For each of these disciplines you will need to consider what rules govern the race and how the scoring works. Each discipline will have specific skills you will need to develop.

After the session you will discuss where to go next and what you would like to focus on next time. You will consider what you could do outside of a rafting environment to help your strength and fitness.

Each rafting session further expands our skills and knowledge, creating a more enjoyable experience on the water. With no two experiences ever the same, we never stop learning.
