What the Role Entails
As a Stadium Safety and Rescue Training (SSRT) Provider, you support the development of paddlers across our community.
Being a safety award provider can be very rewarding.
You will be supporting Coaches and leaders, they will benefit from your support as well and go on to safely introduce thousands of people to our sport.
Applications to become a Stadium Safety and Rescue Training Provider providers are accepted once a year, you can apply by booking on to an orientation course through our event booking system. The application form is part of the booking process.
WHAT WILL YOU DO AS AN SSRT PROVIDER?
- Deliver the SSRT course.
- Support course candidates.
- Ensure candidates have a clear development plan at the end of the course.
WHAT DOES THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
Your development to becoming an SSRT provider starts with your application. If your successful your orientation day will give you the chance to work with one of our Trainers. To get the most out of the orientation we recommend:
- you have read and understood the SSRT Syllabus and course pages Stadium Safety & Rescue Training
- you have observed, supported and worked on SSRT courses before the Orientation.
BEING A SUCCESSFUL PROVIDER WILL INVOLVE:
- Being great at coaching safety skills in a range of craft.
- Delivering a range of personal performance awards.
- Be able to identify strengths in individuals as well as areas for development
MAINTAINING THE ROLE
On becoming an SSRT Provider, you will be required to follow and agree to the Provider Service Agreement. This includes following the Update Scheme.
You will also be expected to attend a moderation event every 3 years; this is to keep you up to date with, and to share best practice with, other SSRT Providers. You will also be expected to run a minimum of 1 course every 3 years to keep your role up to date.
WHEN CAN I APPLY?
PSRC Provider applications are taken each April. Successful applicants are then able to book on an Orientation. Whilst applications do not open until April, Orientation events are advertised year round so you can “save the date”.
Minimum Requirements
Coaches, Leaders or Raft Guides wishing to run the Stadium Safety and Rescue course are required to apply to their Delivery Centre. As a minimum, this will require active and updated coaches, leaders and guides with a minimum of one of:
- White Water Coach
- Freestyle Coach
- Slalom Coach
- Stadium Raft Guide
- Stadium White Water Leader
- White Water Leader
- BCU Level 3 Coach Inland
- BCU Coach with Moderate Water Endorsement (White Water)
The training will cover the following UK artificial, white water centres -
- Lee Valley White Water Centre
- Cardiff White Water Centre
- Pinkston White Water Centre
- Nene White Water Centre
- Nottingham White Water Centre
- Tees White Water Centre
