Furthermore, this interactive, practical module will provide you with top tips and valuable insights to make the most out of paddling whilst protecting the environment.

Content

This module will develop your knowledge of the environment and sustainability. This module explores the thriving natural environment and how to ensure your activities have a minimal impact. The module includes understanding the needs of other users, looking at potential threats and impacts of the paddler to inland and coastal environments, as well as the spread of non-native species. Throughout the module, you will be provided with top tips and a valuable insights.

The module covers:

  • The natural environment and awareness of species/habitats in order to inspire others
  • Potential threats and impacts and how to minimise them
  • Protected sites and associated legislation, including Marine Conservation Zones, Voluntary Exclusion Zones and Access Agreements
  • Understanding the needs of other users
  • Exploring aquatic invasive, non-native species – you will gain confidence in identification of harmful, problematic organisms, a clear understanding why we are concerned about them and how to control them where necessary

This module usually takes a minimum of 8 hours but is often run during weekend or week long expeditions so you can put the theory into practice. The module is open to everyone and has no age restriction.
