Why choose the Leadership module?

First of all, the module is open to anyone and is designed to follow on from the leading principles explored within the British Canoeing Leadership Awards. The module will support you to consider your leading style, how it impacts on your groups and whether it is always the best strategy. The module explores the influences on leadership behaviour, decision making, as well as challenge v control. 

Secondly, this interactive, practical module will provide you with top tips and valuable insights to make the most out of your leadership skills.

Furthermore, this module is used by clubs, outdoor centres and organisations to support their journeys and expeditions.

What does it involve?

  • This module will provide you with top tips and valuable insights.
  • You will consider your own leading style and how this impacts on your groups.
  • You will explore the influences on leader behaviour and decision making.
  • The tutors will support you to gain an understanding of the challenge v control model.
  • You will explore how we identify whether our leading is effective.
  • There will be opportunities to ask questions to further your knowledge and meet like-minded people during the course. Many of our course candidates develop long lasting friendships, connections and contacts.

You could explore the optional Leadership eLearning. This free activity will take you through some of the key principles behind the British Canoeing Model of Leadership. This is a good refresher of the principles for any Leader.

There is no need to register for this training course, by using the ‘find a course’ function you can book straight onto the module. This module is open to anyone wanting to gain knowledge about Leadership, there is no age restriction.

Content

This module is designed to follow on from the leadership principles explored within the British Canoeing Leadership Awards. This module will broaden your knowledge of leadership and get you to consider your style, how it may impact on your group and whether it is always the best strategy.

The module covers:

  • Influences on leadership behaviours
  • Your leadership behaviour
  • Leader decision making
  • Leadership style and philosophy
  • You will explore the Challenge v Control model and look at how this will affect your participants.
  • You will have a greater understanding of the effect your leadership decisions can have on your participants

      This module usually takes a minimum of 8 hours but is often running during weekend or week long expeditions. The module is open to everyone and has no age restriction.
