Racing Explore Award

Description

10 CPD Points

Your Racing Explore Award allows you to feel confident and to have fun in a racing canoe or kayak. It can form the start of your journey into racing. This award should give you the skills required to compete in entry level marathon and sprint events.

Working with your Coach you will look at how to create an enjoyable racing experience. You will learn how to prepare for a training session and a race. The award will begin to look at what drink and nutrition will be needed to help optimise your performance on both a training session and within a race. You will look at how to create a training and race plan and why they are important. This includes the necessity for Warm Ups and Cool Downs.

Forward paddling is a key skill when racing, you will work together with your Coach to review your current technique and look at ways it can be improved. This will include efficiency of your stroke, connectivity and power transfer, as well as how to work alongside others in a crew boat. You will look at how to keep control of your craft whilst manoeuvring it and changing speeds.

After each session you will work with your Coach to identify areas of strengths and areas of improvement. Each day we spend training or racing further expands our skills and knowledge, creating a more enjoyable experience on the water. With no two sessions ever the same, we never stop learning. Continually evaluating the choices we make creates a natural evolution of decision making ability and helps us link training to racing.

  • After the Training Session/Race
  • Future Development

Course Assessment

There is no formal assessment for the Racing Explore Award. Each day spent training and racing will further expand your knowledge and skills. With no two sessions ever the same, you will never stop learning. You will work alongside your Coach, choosing where and how you can learn more about racing. You will then be certificated for the award when ready.
