Description
Your Wild Water Racing Perform Award develops your skills to allow you to have an enjoyable and safe training session on grade 1-2 water.
You will look at the environmental conditions and determine how they may affect your paddle. This includes considering the flow of the water and whether the water levels are likely to change. You will also consider whether there is enough daylight left to complete the session you wish to. As well as ensuring we follow any water etiquette that may be in place.
Before getting onto the water you must ensure that you have the appropriate equipment to keep you safe and warm. You will need to consider whether your craft and equipment are in a suitable condition to cope with the demands that the white water will put on them. As well as ensuring that you have any additional safety equipment within the craft.
This award will further develop the fundamentals of posture, connectivity, power transfer and feel. It will also introduce how to read the white water. You will identify the different features of the water and consider what impact they could have on your paddling. This includes selecting the best entry and exit lines from them to ensure a safe passage or a quick line. You will continue to learn how to position yourself to gain advantage from another boat’s wash. As well as the best techniques and tactics to maintain stability and speed whilst steering. Your rescue skills will also continue to be developed to deal with the conditions.
After each session, you and your Coach will reflect on the session and consider where to go next. You will look at your personal goals and what will help you achieve them. You will also consider what tools you can use to help you analyse your performance. Each day we spend wild water racing further expands our skills and knowledge, creating a more enjoyable experience on the water. With no two moving water sessions ever the same, we never stop learning. Continually evaluating the choices we make creates a natural evolution of decision making and paddling ability.
